  • No consignment for Starfish store

    Grace Moore|Apr 11, 2019

MTC Board chairman Nancy Feehan attended Monday’s meeting of the Moorcroft Council. After she reported on the work of the board, she spoke to the council’s previous discussion on possibly moving the operation of the town’s secondhand store, Starfish, toward offering consignment to bring in “higher quality” items. Feehan stated unequivocally, “We will not be having a consignment store. It’s way too much work.” She added, too, that a local business owner had called her to protest such an action “would be infringing on their business”. She also co...

  • In need of a lift

    Apr 11, 2019

Early Tuesday morning, the long-awaited derrick was set up and tied down as the crew prepared to lift out the pump and motor from the Madison well. The well stopped pumping water to the town's tank last month and this was the first week the ground was dry enough for the crew to get the equipment from the former site to this. Public Works will ascertain the reason why the well has ceased production. The assumption at this point is the death of the pump which, according to Mayor Dick Claar, is...

  • Library honors Military Child Month

    Grace Moore|Apr 11, 2019

Did you know that April is the month recognizing the 1.7 million American military-dependent children worldwide, including Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corp? The Moorcroft branch Public Library has set a table, according to Pam Jespersen, at the request of American Legion Auxiliary member Vicki Paddock. The table is inspired by the POW/MIA ceremony honoring veterans who never made it home. This table setting reminds people, though, of the kids who sacrifice much more than their civilian...

  • An open letter to Wyoming seniors and their loved ones:

    Apr 11, 2019

Earlier this month, I received a message on my answering machine in Gillette. The caller claimed they were from the IRS and said I was being charged with fraud. If I did not call the phone number they provided, my case would be brought to the courts. A few weeks later, I received another message supposedly from the Social Security Administration. Again, they said I was being charged with a crime and instructed me to call a phone number they provided. Thankfully, I knew both of these calls were not real and did not give any of my personal...

  • Risch disavows "nation building," Cheney should follow

    Tyler Lindholm, HD1 Representative|Apr 11, 2019

As a Navy veteran, I’m familiar with the heavy responsibilities and costs of making war. As an elected official sworn to uphold the U.S. Constitution, I’m also mindful that our Founding Fathers constitutionally authorized Congress to declare war, and Congress alone. Unfortunately, our federal government has strayed from that founding model during the interminable “War on Terror” in which we’ve been mired for nearly two decades, during which Congress has ceded its war-making authority to the executive branch. As a result, our military has been...
