At approximately 5 a.m. Tuesday morning, the Moorcroft Volunteer Fire Department was called to a structure fire of a family home and attached garage at 414 Park Street. By the time the firemen got there, reported incident commander JD Davis, the house and garage was full engulfed and could not be saved. Sundance and Pine Haven firefighters also assisted with the blaze. The family of three had escaped and left the scene before first responders arrived. Firemen had to employ air tanks to breath...

  • Madison well breaks down

    Grace Moore|Apr 4, 2019

While not the only well from which Moorcroft draws their water, the Madison contributes the highest volume at around 600 gallons per minute, according to Moorcroft Mayor Dick Claar. A month ago, the Madison went down. Public Works Director Cory Allison noted at the time that the town's water tank "had dropped". However, there was still a great deal of snow and wet in the area 30 days ago. "We're just fortunate that it's a minimal use water time so we didn’t have to do anything,” Claar said. “Ot...

    Grace Moore|Apr 4, 2019

At Monday’s regular meeting of the Moorcroft Town Council, Mayor Dick Claar asked the governing body to consider the request from Crook County School District #1 to “take over” a roadway the district is planning to build from Rail Road Street, traveling through the property south of the high school around the east side of the south parking lot and on to Country Lane. Nelson Engineering’s Brent Bennett, who is acting in behalf of the district, has spoken extensively with Claar and Public Works Director Cory Allison, but has refused repeate...

  • Starfish size scrutinized

    Grace Moore|Apr 4, 2019

The Starfish Second Hand Store was a matter of discussion at last Tuesday night’s budget meeting of Moorcroft’s council and department heads. Moorcroft Mayor Dick Claar, one of the MTC’s strongest advocates, reported that the enterprise has taken in “more money than we anticipated; we’re at 114 percent on revenues”. This number is, in part, due to the two percent raise in the leases and predominately from the Starfish. Recognizing the hard work the MTC volunteers give to maintaining the second hand store, the governing body commended all of tho...

  • Letter to the editor

    Apr 4, 2019

Dear Editor, Moorcroft Town Council is looking to borrow money again; hundreds of thousands of dollars to remodel part of the old school building on the edge of town so they can expand the town offices including the police department. Close and sell the property on Big Horn Avenue for who knows what. The majority of residents in Moorcroft are not happy with this plan. Now the council is considering condemning the rest of that block, tear out what’s left of the original buildings, no plans what to do with the property, more empty trashy lots. I...

    Grace Moore|Apr 4, 2019

Recently Moorcroft resident Elise Buhler and Kramer the dog addressed the town council with a request for a variance allowing dogs into the MTC with the goal of starting a dog club.
