  • Frozen lines heat up safety issue

    Grace Moore|Mar 28, 2019

One of the places in town that froze in the last storm was the senior center north of town hall on Big Horn Avenue. Public Works Director Cory Allison reported at Monday night’s meeting that to lay a meter pit and thaw the line will cost the town approximately $3000. Herein lies the problem with investing any money into that area, according to Councilman Owen Mathews: “There is a lot of concern about that building so to put anything into it is, I think, a waste of the town’s money.” All of the old buildings between town hall and the post of...

  • Waterlogged

    Grace Moore|Mar 28, 2019

With the deep snow and rain, no one has been surprised to see flooding in the area. The clearest indication of the amount of melt that has taken place since the snowstorm can be seen at the rest area, which was almost completely underwater as the week began. Road & Bridge Foreman Morgan Ellsbury said that only a couple of areas in the county have consistently flooded since the thaw began last week. "There's not much of anything so far – not that affects the roads. I've only got a few places t...

Pine Haven’s EMS has been working on funding a hydraulic gurney to be attached to the ambulance for the last couple of years and Saturday’s fundraiser raised more than $6000 toward that goal. EMT Barb Hardy reported that there were probably more than 200 guests who “came and stayed for a while and left” throughout the three hour event. There were five participating teams in the gurney race; each team paid a $30 entrance fee. The teams then had to run a course pushing the manual gurney to pick...

    Mike Enzi, U.S. Senator, R-Wyo.|Mar 28, 2019

By U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo. The Green New Deal, plain and simple, is a pipe dream for forcing a massive expansion of socialist policies on the American people. Some might say this is an overdramatic statement, but this 14-page bill lays it out in black and white, written in plain English. There isn’t much ambiguity when you describe your legislation as “...a new national, social, industrial and economic mobilization on a scale not seen since World War II and the New Deal era…” What does it mean in practical terms? It means elimina...

Cody Cottier, Jackson Hole Daily Via Wyoming News Exchange|Mar 28, 2019

JACKSON — Dave Hodges was glad he didn’t park in the driveway. When the sheriff’s deputy got home from work Wednesday evening, he made a last-minute decision to pull his squad car into an overflow lot in Melody Ranch, rather than next to his personal car. He was walking toward the house when he heard what he could only describe as the roof cracking. “I stopped, turned around and there she went,” he said. He could do little more than watch as a mass of snow, accumulated over months, roared off the garage and slammed into his Subaru Legacy wi...
