Moorcroft High School teacher and advisor Andrea Wood, along with around 40 sophomore students, were working hard researching the resources available to them at the Texas Trails Museum last Thursday morning. The kids were spread throughout the building, reading pioneer books on the early families and the towns of the county as well as examining pictures and writing story drafts at tables set up for the purpose. The project they are undertaking is "huge", according to Wood. The students are...

One of the designs for improving areas of the town under former mayor Larry Suchor was the continued development of Boe Drive on the west side of town, connecting the as yet unfinished dead end road with Pendleton Drive. In the interest of this idea, Rancher Skip Waters donated to the town property through which said road would travel. The current council, under Mayor Bill Cunningham, is moving forward with the transference of title, ensuring the town’s recorded ownership of the property. “ This council is going to re-plat that lot because tha...

In last week’s issue of the Moorcroft Leader, in the article “Ag facility proposed”, FFA adviser Hugh Jenkins had inferred board approval for the barn when applying to the council for a variance. However, Crook County School District #1 superintendent Mark Broderson later advised that neither the ag facility nor any of the other departments’ requested projects has, as yet, been approved; the proposed FFA project is still under consideration. Moorcroft Mayor Dick Claar said that, “They’ve been wanting to get that started here for a year or mor...

Jared Olsen, R-Cheyenne, was defeated on its first reading in the Senate on an 18-12 vote. Only the day before, the bill had passed out of the Senate Judiciary Committee on a 5-0 vote. Gillette man sentenced to prison in string of attacks GILLETTE (WNE) — A Gillette man was sentenced Thursday to more than 10 years in prison for assaults on a puppy, his girlfriend and a fellow jail inmate. “This is a horrific series of events,” said District Judge Thomas Rumpke. “It’s bad enough that you tortured the animal. … Then on probation you beat up a household member, and if that’s not enough, while in jail, you decided to — pardon the language, but there’s no other way to say it — beat the crap out of somebody.” In 2016, Santos plead...
JACKSON — Satchel Toole, 23, wasn’t breathing when his friends pulled him out of an avalanche Saturday afternoon on Teton Pass. Twenty-four hours later, Toole said the experience was “humbling.” Two additional young men were caught in the same slide and buried to varying degrees. The Jackson resident said he’s lucky to tell the tale of his successful rescue. “I think it’s fairly haunting to think about a lot, but it definitely gives you a perspective on being thankful and also aware,” he said. “You can learn a lot from it.” The near-miss was o...

Following the belly dump was a small passenger car which chose to enter the passing lane to pass the belly dump only to find the snow plow. The passenger car struck the sander and grazed the left side of the belly...
CHEYENNE — After a drawn out tug of war between Casper and Buffalo for the recommendation to host a new skilled nursing facility for Wyoming veterans, the Legislature has made its final decision: It’s going to Johnson County. Following weeks of location-changing amendments to a bill authorizing the construction of the facility, the Wyoming Senate — days after switching the location for the fourth time — voted 24-6 on Thursday to build the facility in Buffalo. The switch came shortly after a Senate committee voted to amend the bill — which pas...

On Friday, the Lady Wolves traveled to Sundance to take on the Bulldogs. The Wolves jumped out to an early lead, but gave some of it up and went into the half up, 21-18. We definitely had our opportunities in the first half; we didn’t convert like we needed to and that allowed them to stay in the game. The Wolves played well in the third quarter, but found themselves in foul trouble in the fourth quarter. Sundance came back and tied the game late into the quarter, but the Wolves were able to get a couple of key rebounds and convert free t...

On Friday, the Wolves matched up against the number one team in the conference, the Big Horn Rams. As expected when playing a team that is as good as the Rams, it was a very tough battle.
