The Specific Purpose Sales Tax (SPOT) has become a topic of discussion for both the Moorcroft and Pine Haven town councils. This tax is the sixth penny added to the obligated four cents and general purpose fifth cent tax in Wyoming. Unlike those taxes, however, voters do not authorize it to run for a set amount of time. Pine Haven residents came together last Thursday night to discuss the possibility of pursuing a senior center within the township. Only 12 people attended including Council members Karla Brandenburg and John Henle; this was attributed in part to the harsh weather conditions at the time. Douglas Chester Engstrom, 70, passed away January 27, 2020, at Clear Creek Care Center, Westminster, Colorado of a long-term illness. He was born January 5, 1950 to Robert L. and Charlotte P. (Lamb) Engstrom in Newcastle, Wyoming. He attended Sundance High School. Following high school, he did a tour of duty in Vietnam with the U.S. Army. 10-year-old man ticketed after hitting, kicking 14-year-old girl GILLETTE (WNE) — A 19-year-old man was ticketed for assault and battery after hitting and kicking a 14-year-old girl Saturday night. The man claimed it was in self-defense. Moorcroft wrestlers traveled to Greybull this past weekend to wrestle in the Greybull Memorial Invitational tournament. There, the team placed first and had three champions. Individual results were: Champions: 113 Sean Buckmiller went 4-0, pinning all of his opponents to take the championship. 145 Parker Seeley, 4-0, pinned his way through the semifinals to advance into the finals. Hailey Jones signed a letter of intent with the University of Wyoming Monday afternoon. The athlete has run track throughout her years in high school. “The coaches said they’d been watching me ever since I started high school,” she says. She will be running cross country and track for the college for a scholarship. On Friday night, the Moorcroft Lady Wolves took on the Moguls from Edgemont, SD. The Junior Varsity started the night. The Wolves were able to take an early lead into the half with their defensive pressure and timely baskets. The second half got close and saw Edgemont pull away at the end for a 35-28 victory. Last weekend, the Wolves took on the Edgemont Moguls for the second time this year. The game before Christmas has the Wolves and the Moguls ready for another opportunity to play.
