Wanda Materi, age 95, of Upton, Wyoming, passed peacefully on December 27, 2024, at Weston County Manor. Wanda Mae Canfield was born May 1, 1929, at the ranch on Kara Creek to Willard and Ada Canfield. Along with her twin Wallace, they joined sisters, Leona and Rachael, and brother Kenneth. Larry G. Jackson, born October 5, 1942, in Pierre, South Dakota, passed away December 23, 2024, surrounded by loved ones, in Gillette, Wyoming. Larry did well with his life. He was raised in Presho, South Dakota, where after high school he worked as a carpenter to pay for college. At Dakota Wesleyan University he met the love of his life, Susan. On Monday, December 23, Mrs. Claus visited the Moorcroft Branch Library for some last-minute wishes. During the visit, children were able to talk with Mrs. Claus and her elves. After the children listed off their Christmas wishes they received a goody bag. The goody bag included fresh baked cookies, a candy cane and a hot chocolate packet. A new year brings new beginnings and goals to the community. For the upcoming year of 2025, the museum, chamber of commerce, MIC food pantry and library have new ideas to better the community. The West Texas Trails Museum is looking forward to bringing new displays to the community. These new displays will be based on families, oil fields and the first settlers. On Dec. 23 an officer was called from home to investigate a report of a suspicious vehicle in the bank parking lot. Upon arrival, the officer found an individual asleep in their car. With Christmas break underway, the winter sports are one month into their seasons. The girls’ basketball team for the 2024-25 season looks a lot different than it did last year. With players moving on, the roles of the girls have changed and continued to strengthen. The first week found the teams in Burns for opening weekend.
