The Moorcroft Wolves traveled down to Saratoga for a Saturday afternoon game over the weekend. Looking for the first road win of the season, the pack was determined to keep their strong start moving in the right direction. The Wolves stopped the Panthers on the first drive through excellent tackling by Hunter Garoutte, who led the team with ten tackles. Friday, September 4, the Wolves embraced the new 2020 season with COVID-19 regulations as they hosted the Greybull Buffaloes. The team started the game strong, taking only six plays for Zane Linder to connect with Lane Wood on a 67-yard touchdown and capping that off with a two-point conversion by Hunter Garoutte. Zero Week Scrimmage with Wright was a good opportunity for the Wolves to show case what they have worked on in the first few weeks of the season. The varsity squad saw three quarters of action against Wright’s varsity and at the end of it, the Wolves lead 18-14. The Wright junior varsity scored twice on the Wolves junior varsity; with this being a scrimmage, it was a great opportunity for the younger players from both teams to see some action. The Moorcroft Wolves Junior High Golf team traveled to Thermopolis to compete in the Bobcat Invitational last Thursday; this is only the second time competing this spring. Caden Connally and Lane Wood were the two members of the team that competed. Both boys played very well, having never played the course before. Caden finished the round with an 82 and Lane finished the round with 93, both placing in the top 15 for the tourney....
The young Wolves basketball team had another pair of games this past weekend, battling with teams from the Southeast region. Unfortunately, the Wolves are not seeing the success that they would hope to see on the score board, but they are very invested in the process of building a successful team. Friday night saw the young Wolves fall to the Cyclones of Southeast, JV with a score of 22 to 18 and Varsity, 63 to 36. Friday, the Wolves basketball team took on the Sundance bulldogs. The Wolves came up short in both JV and Varsity game, though, with a score of Sundance JV 56 Moorcroft JV 43 and Sundance 61 Moorcroft 24. Saturday, they took on the Tongue River Eagles. Once again the Wolves could not get the lead in either contest. The Eagles JV won, 68-34 and 84-37. The boys are getting better each day, and are building a good foundation....
The Wolves won against NSI, 55-44 at the Powder River Classic last weekend and lost to Tongue River, 70-49 and Kaycee, 62-43. The young Wolves team is continually getting better. They are learning how to compete as a team and growing each and every day. The Junior Varsity team went to Wright Thursday, December 20 to compete in a quad, losing to Sundance, 58-54 and beating Upton, 57-52.
