    Grace Moore|Nov 17, 2022

An unanticipated invoice was pulled from the bill list at last Wednesday’s meeting of the Moorcroft Council. “We are being billed by Campbell County Hospital for patient intercept,” Councilman Paul Smoot explained his concern. “We have not yet received patient or transport information on that, but it is a legitimate bill for $299.” Town Clerk/Treasurer Cheryl Schneider told the governing body that she had found the money to pay this bill in the ambulance budget. “They didn’t have a lot so I took it out of their ‘medical supplies’,” she...

    Grace Moore|Nov 17, 2022

After several months, the deep crack that ran the length of Goshen Street has been filled and sealed, according to Public Works Director Cory Allison. To deal with future cracking before it reaches similar straits, though, Mayor Ben Glenn wants a more preventative plan from the director. “I’d really rather stay on top of that than let it fall behind. Start game planning for spring and summer. I think that’s just something you need to stick in your hat,” he said. Glenn suggested planning such work to coincide with concurrent projects if possibl...

  • Winter conditions cause rollover wreck

    Grace Moore|Nov 10, 2022

Friday morning was the first real taste of winter in Crook County and along with the wind, rain and snow came risks for travelers on icy roads. This is what happened to a 72-year-old Osage man, driving a 2014 Nisson Frontier westbound on US Highway 16 during the early morning hours. He lost control of his vehicle near mile marker 203, a short distance west of Moorcroft, when the automobile lost traction and exited the roadway to the right and down the embankment, tripping and rolling three quarters of a full revolution before coming to rest on...

Mayor Karla Brandenburg assures residents, though, “We do have about $95,000 in previous ARPA funds that we may use to put in some of the new hydrants we need down on BOE drive, the council will have to...

    Grace Moore|Oct 27, 2022

Residents who are depositing yard waste, predominantly leaves, into the streets are advised of their responsibility to keep the municipal roadways clear of such waste that fouls the drains. This problem faced the public works team earlier in the year with police verbally warning and ticketing those who did not clear their lawn clippings. Leaves fall under this rule as well and will be addressed with the same redress in the future. The council discussed the matter at the Monday night meeting and realized that this week’s yard cleaning will p...

  • Advocate questions Wyoming property tax rules

    Grace Moore|Oct 20, 2022

In 1989, Wyoming legislators changed the state constitution, allowing property taxes to be governed not by assessed value, but by fair market value, thus ensuring a steady revenue in a largely mineral based state. According to Cindy Barlow of the Equality State Taxpayers Association, this change was very small, but mighty. "[Today,] all taxable properties shall be valued at its full value as defined by the legislature; before, it said 'shall be valued at its assessed value." Pine Haven...

As she placed a small "flower", she explained the process that makes the delicate bloom, "You turn this while the wood is wet and [as] you can see the dark line, that's the heart of the wood and it works around that." This, of course, is not the first time the town's business has been curtailed to the one monthly endeavor. In the past, however, according to Councilman Dale Petersen, the time it took to cover the agenda was often prohibitive. Making Wednesday evening the monthly date of the meeting was not arbitrary either,...
