  • Pre-season look at the Lady Wolves basketball team

    Dusty Petz|Dec 12, 2019

The Lady Wolves Girl’s Basketball Team began practice prior to the Thanksgiving break and has been working hard. We have a good group of girls who are focused, want to be here and put the team before themselves. We have an experienced group of returning upperclassmen and a good number of new girls into the program. Practices have been going very well and defense will continue to be our focus. Because the team is experienced, we have been able to grasp concepts and progress quicker through different offenses and defenses that we want to run. T...

    Dusty Petz|May 16, 2019

On Friday and Saturday, Moorcroft High School Golfers traveled to Sheridan for the Spring Championships. Although the weather was not cooperative at times, all of the golfers did an exceptional job and all were awarded All Conference Honors based on their finishes. Payton Timberman placed sixth overall and first place in the Powder River Conference; Caden Connally placed eighth overall and third place in the conference; and Lane Wood finished 13th overall and seventh in the conference. On the girls side, Kaylei Petz placed 20th overall and...

    Dusty Petz|May 2, 2019

On Friday, April 26, the Moorcroft Wolves traveled to Sundance for the Bulldog Golf Tournament. Caden Connally led the way, posting an 89, Payton Timberman shot a personal best of 93 and Lane Wood shot a 112. On the girls' side, Kaylei Petz was part of the first place team that won the scramble tournament. The weather held off and it turned out to be a nice day. It was another good opportunity to get on the course and post some scores. The Wolves return to action on Friday, May 3, when they...

  • Swinging into spring season

    Dusty Petz|Apr 11, 2019

The Moorcroft Boys Golf Team traveled to Douglas, WY for a tournament on Friday. Moorcroft was one of two 2A teams that competed in this tournament; the remainder of the field was made up of 3A and 4A schools. Lane Wood led us in scoring with a 92, Caden Connally shot a 98 and Payton Timberman a 102. Overall, I was happy with how the boys competed. Because of weather, we haven’t had a lot of opportunities to get on an actual course. This was the first time of the spring season where they have been able to play more than two holes. They did v...

  • Victorious Lady Wolves will go to Regionals

    Dusty Petz|Feb 21, 2019

On Friday, the Lady Wolves traveled to Sundance to take on the Bulldogs. The Wolves jumped out to an early lead, but gave some of it up and went into the half up, 21-18. We definitely had our opportunities in the first half; we didn’t convert like we needed to and that allowed them to stay in the game. The Wolves played well in the third quarter, but found themselves in foul trouble in the fourth quarter. Sundance came back and tied the game late into the quarter, but the Wolves were able to get a couple of key rebounds and convert free t...

  • Lack of consistency costs Lady Wolves

    Dusty Petz|Feb 14, 2019

On Friday night, the Lady Wolves hosted the Rams from Big Horn. The Wolves got off to a slow start and found themselves down 42-26 at the half. Big Horn shot it well in the first half and our defense wasn’t where it needed to be. The Wolves came out strong in the third quarter behind a 19 point while holding the Rams to just seven points. The Wolves trailed, 49-45, going into the fourth quarter. Neither team could get much going in the last quarter and the Wolves ended up losing, 56-49. We started the game slow, gave up too many points in t...

  • Lady Wolves whip Tigers

    Dusty Petz|Feb 7, 2019

On Friday night, the Lady Wolves hosted the Southeast Cyclones. Southeast started fast, ending with a 12-5 first quarter lead. The Wolves fought back and went into the half down 30-23. The contest continued the same in the second half. The Wolves weren’t able to overcome the Cyclones and dropped the game, 53-41. I didn’t think that we came out ready to play in the first quarter. We had a good scouting report on what we wanted to do and just weren’t able to execute some of those things. We got into early foul trouble and that had an effec...

  • Confident Wolves conquer competition

    Dusty Petz|Jan 31, 2019

On Friday night, the Sundance Bulldogs came to Moorcroft to take on the Lady Wolves. The Wolves got off to a good start with their full court pressure and were able to take a 29-12 lead into the half. The Wolves were able to convert on some opportunities in the second half and won the game, 61-29. I was pleased with how we started the game and were able to keep our energy up throughout the game. Our full court pressure created some opportunities for us and we were able to convert. On Saturday ni...

  • Lady Wolves come out fighting

    Dusty Petz|Jan 17, 2019

The Moorcroft Lady Wolves played Upton on January 4 and won, 57-33. They followed with another triumph on January 5, winning against Hulett with a score of 59-17. The team returned to action this week for the West River Tournament in South Dakota. Moorcroft took on Oelrichs in their first game. After a slow three minutes, the Wolves found their stride and won the game 54-28. Our full court pressure was good and that lead to turnovers that we are able to convert on the other end. All of our varsity girls saw good playing time and it was a good t...

  • Three wins for Lady Wolves

    Dusty Petz|Jan 3, 2019

On Friday, the Lady Wolves started the First Annual Powder River Conference Tournament at noon by taking on the Tongue River Eagles. The Wolves jumped out to an early 15-8 first quarter lead, but Tongue River was able to close the gap and the game went into halftime with the Wolves leading, 24-17. After some halftime adjustments, the Wolves were able to hold the Eagles to just eight points in the second half and won the game, 43-24. The game was closer than the score appeared. We made some mistakes in the first half that we needed to correct...
