  • MHS boys win third Spring Championship

    Dusty Petz|May 18, 2023

On Thursday, the Moorcroft High School Golf Team traveled to Worland for the 2A Spring Championships. We knew going into the tournament that we were going to be challenged. The weather this spring only allowed us to participate in three golf tournaments and weather was, again, going to be an issue on both Thursday and Friday. Regardless, the team came out and competed. Any time you have constant rain and then wind along with it, there are going to be challenges on all of the holes. I really...

  • Lady Wolves finish season 11-12

    Dusty Petz|Mar 9, 2023

On Thursday, the Lady Wolves traveled to Torrington for the first round of the 3A Regional Basketball Tournament. Moorcroft’s first opponent was the Wheatland Lady Bulldogs. The game got off to a slow start and, although the game was back and forth, neither team found much offense in the first half with Wheatland up, 14-6. The second half picked up offensively and the Lady Wolves found themselves down 18-17 to start the 4th quarter. The last quarter was back and forth; the Lady Wolves had opportunities to take the lead in the last minute but c...

  • Bulldogs beat Wolves by the skin of their teeth

    Dusty Petz|Mar 2, 2023

On Friday night, the Lady Wolves welcomed the Lady Bulldogs from Wheatland for the last game of the regular season. We knew going in that it was going to be a competitive game. The game got off to a good start with neither team able to pull away and both teams were tied going into the half. I was pleased with where we were going into the half. It was really a defensive battle in the first half and that continued into the second half. Moorcroft found themselves down six points with 3:00 minutes...

  • Lady Wolves win against Eagles on home ground

    Dusty Petz|Feb 23, 2023

On Friday, the Lady Wolves traveled to Buffalo to take on the Lady Bison. Buffalo came out quickly and jumped out to a 22-5 first quarter lead. The Lady Wolves were able to close the gap and found themselves down, 32-17 at halftime. Buffalo was able to pull away in the second half for a 66-37 victory. We had a couple of quarters where we weren’t able to get defensive stops and our offense stalled. I thought the other two quarters were good, but we need to be able to put all four quarters together. On Saturday, the Lady Eagles from Tongue R...

  • Lady Wolves conquer Big Horn Rams

    Dusty Petz|Feb 16, 2023

On Friday, the Lady Wolves welcomed the Doggies from Newcastle to the Wolves' Den. We knew going in that we would have to play solid defense and convert on the offensive end. The first quarter was a defensive battle and Newcastle held a 10-4 lead. The second quarter was much of the same with the Lady Doggies taking a 24-11 lead into the half. The second half was all Newcastle as they won the game, 57-30. I thought our defense was good in the first half and we just missed some opportunities in...

  • Wolves win in Hulett

    Dusty Petz|Feb 9, 2023

On Friday, the Lady Wolves traveled cross county to take on the Hulett Lady Red Devils. Hulett got off to a quick start and led the Lady Wolves, 5-1 midway through the first quarter. The Wolves locked down defensively and were able to end the quarter on a 16 to 6 run. The Lady Wolves didn’t look back after that, winning the game, 69-37. I thought we did a good job with our full court pressure. We were able to get some turnovers that led to layups or free throws. The Wolves return to action on Friday, when they host Newcastle and are also h...

    Dusty Petz|Feb 2, 2023

On Friday, the Moorcroft Lady Wolves took on a familiar opponent when the Lady Bulldogs from Sundance came to town. The Lady Wolves got off to an early 25 to 12 halftime lead. Sundance came back in the third quarter, outscoring the Wolves, 16-5 and Moorcroft held a 30-28 lead going into the fourth quarter. The last quarter was back and forth with neither team able to pull ahead until the end. The Lady Wolves hit some timely baskets and free throws to secure the 42-36 victory. Playing a rival opp...

  • Lady Wolves beat Herders

    Dusty Petz|Jan 26, 2023

On Friday evening, the Lady Wolves traveled to Newcastle to take on the Dogies. The game was quick from the opening tip with Newcastle leading 12 to 5 after the first quarter. Newcastle stepped it up in the second and third quarters, holding the Wolves to single digits. The Lady Wolves found some ground in the fourth quarter while outscoring the Dogies, but Newcastle finished the game out with a 50 to 22 victory. We got off to a slow start and our shots weren’t falling. I thought our defense was good, but we had some offensive challenges t...

  • Lady Wolves continue to develop

    Dusty Petz|Jan 19, 2023

On Tuesday, the Lady Wolves traveled to Hot Springs, SD for the first round of the West River Tournament. The Wolves faced off against the home team, the Hot Springs Bison. Moorcroft got off to a slow start in the first half and found themselves down, 32-15 to start the third quarter. The Wolves fought back and were able to cut the lead to eight midway into the fourth quarter, but that is as close as they came and they ended up losing the game, 51-38. I really thought that our slow start hurt us because we were then expending more energy...

  • Lady Wolves howl into season

    Dusty Petz|Dec 15, 2022

On Thursday, the Lady Wolves traveled to Burns to open their season at the Burns Tournament. Their first opponent was Arvada, from Denver, CO. The Lady Wolves got off to a slow start, but quickly found their stride and took a 38-8 lead into the half. The second half was much of the same thing and the Wolves were able to get their first victory of the season with a final score of 68-18. We were really excited to start the season and we didn’t shoot it very well from the outside, but that is part of the energy of a new season and first game. W...

  • One stroke takes the win in Wright

    Dusty Petz|May 19, 2022

On Friday, the Moorcroft Wolves Golf Team traveled to Wright for the two day Spring Championships. It wasn't the type of day that we would have liked to have from a weather standpoint, specifically the wind, and I don't think any of the players were happy with their scores when golf ended on Friday. From a boys team perspective, we were seven shots out of the lead for the Powder River Conference Championship and sitting in fourth place for all of the 2A teams. We returned on Saturday to better...

  • MHS golfers rally after missing games

    Dusty Petz|May 12, 2022

On Friday, the Moorcroft Wolves Golf Team traveled to Lusk. It was only our third tournament of the season after getting weathered out of the rest of them. It was a windy day, but good to be able to get out on the golf course. Cade Williams and Zane Linder shared low individual scores, good for seventh/eighth place by both shooting a 99. Dane Connally was tenth with a score of 103 and Cole Stripp finished 14th with a score of 109. The Moorcroft Boys team got first place with a low total of 410 and on the girls side, Camlyn Connally got third...

  • Moorcroft golf off to a good start

    Dusty Petz|Apr 14, 2022

On Friday, the Moorcroft Wolves Boys and Girls Golf Teams traveled to Upton for their first tournament of the year. It really was a good opportunity for the kids participating to get out and compete in a tournament. Due to weather, we haven't had as many practices as we would have liked. In the boys division, Cade Williams led the Wolves by shooting a 97 for fifth place; Cole Stripp got ninth, with a score of 108; and Gus Robertson got 15th, with a score of 131. On the girl's side, Camlyn...

  • Lady Wolves take on State

    Dusty Petz|Mar 10, 2022

The Moorcroft Lady Wolves went into the Wyoming State Basketball Tournament as the #1 seed from the East. It was the Moorcroft Lady Wolves' first time in the State Championship game in school history. Moorcroft's first opponent was the Lady Eagles from St. Stephens. Going into the tournament, you know that all of the teams that are there have earned the right, so each game is a challenge. The Lady Wolves got off to the start they wanted in the first quarter while outscoring the Eagles, 16-9....

  • Lady Wolves bring home Regional championship

    Dusty Petz|Mar 3, 2022

The Lady Wolves traveled to Pine Bluffs for the 2A East Regional Tournament on Thursday. Their first opponent was the Lady Rams from Big Horn. Big Horn played with the Wolves in the first half and the Wolves found themselves ahead 23-14 going into the half. They really tried to slow us down in that first half and changed some things they had done during the regular season. We made some adjustments in the second half and it helped to get our defense where we needed it to be and that led to good o...

  • Lady Wolves scatter a few feathers

    Dusty Petz|Feb 24, 2022

On Friday, the Lady Wolves took on the Bulldogs from Sundance. The game was back and forth for much of the first half with neither team able to gain a distinct advantage. The Wolves took a slim 25-18 lead into the half. The second half was much of the same with both teams getting baskets and stops on the defensive end. The difference came in the fourth quarter, when the Lady Wolves were able to hold Sundance to seven points while scoring 12 for a 53-38 victory. It was a good, competitive game, which is to be expected when you are playing a...

    Dusty Petz|Feb 17, 2022

On Friday, Moorcroft Lady Wolves hosted the Big Horn Lady Rams. The Wolves got off to a good start in the first quarter, outscoring Big Horn, 18-4. Moorcroft was able to hold the Rams to five points in the second quarter and took a 32-9 lead into the half. The second half was similar to the first and the Lady Wolves were able to get the 60-25 victory. I thought we really did a good job on the defensive end. We had good ball pressure and that led to turnovers that we were able to convert on the offensive end. On Saturday, the Lady Wolves...

  • Lady Wolves fight for victory

    Dusty Petz|Feb 10, 2022

On Tuesday, the Lady Wolves took on the Bobcats from Upton. We knew going into the game that it was going to be a tough challenge. They have good size and the ability to run the floor. The Bobcats got off to a quick start in the first quarter and led, 20-13. The Lady Wolves came back in the second quarter and outscored Upton to take a 33-29 lead into halftime. The second half was all Bobcats as they won the game, 59-45. We came out slow in the second half and didn’t get the shots to fall that we needed to. We had some opportunities, but n...

The Lady Wolves traveled to Wright on Saturday to take on the Lady Panthers. The Junior Varsity team got the night off to a good start with a convincing two quarter win. They played with a lot of energy and their defensive pressure allowed them good opportunities on the offensive end. The Varsity took the floor for the final game of the evening. The Wolves came out of the gate quickly and found themselves ahead, 32 to 6 at the end of the first quarter, and took a 48-19 lead into the half. The Lady Wolves didn’t look back in the second half and...

  • Lady Wolves prepare for conference

    Dusty Petz|Jan 20, 2022

On Tuesday, the Lady Wolves traveled to Newell, SD to take on the Lady Longhorns from Faith. We have seen Faith quite a few times over the years and we knew going in they would be a quality opponent. The game got off to a quick start with both teams getting buckets. Faith led, 10-9 at the end of the first quarter and extended their lead, 28-18 going into the half. We made some adjustments and talked about chipping away at the lead in the third quarter. The Wolves responded and found their offense and were able to cut the lead to 34-37 going int...

Neither team could get much going in the opening minutes of the game, but the Wolves were able to find success in their half court defense and took a 33-23 lead into the half. The third quarter was really where the Wolves were able to extend their lead and it started on the defensive end. The team scored 19 points in the quarter while holding the Lady Bucs to five points. Early on, neither team was able to put much distance between the other, but in the second half, the Lady Wolves broke the game open. With a combination of good defense and turning steals into points on the other end, Moorcroft was able to secure the 37-16 victory. Coach Hulm stated that he was impressed with the team’s defense and ability to get stops and convert those into baskets. All o...

The Lady Wolves opened their season on the road at the Burns Tournament. Their first opponent out was the Lady Broncs from Burns. Burns got out to a small lead to start the game, but the Wolves responded and found themselves ahead 21-18 going into the half; neither team was able to gain ground in the second half and Moorcroft was able to come out with the 55-52 victory. It was a good game to start out the season. They have a great basketball environment in Burns and it was a good victory for us on the road. The next day, the Lady Wolves...
