Pine Haven write-in candidate Jeanne Williams has accepted her nomination for council after the official deadline closed. The letter confirming she received four write-in votes did not reach her; according to Williams, she only found out about the nomination “from reading the paper”.
The closing date for accepting the nomination was the previous Wednesday, but Williams was determined to accept this opportunity so she called the County Clerk’s Office and spoke with Linda Fritz, she says. They came to the conclusion that the address the office had on file had not been changed when Williams left Sundance about 13 years ago and it was to that address that the letter informing her of the nomination had been sent.
Fritz discussed the matter with County Attorney Joe Baron and, because the error was in fact that of the county, Williams was allowed to accept the nomination late.
“I got my paperwork in and accepted the write-in,” she says.
